Minecraft Crafting Guide

Crafting is a way to create tools, blocks and other different types of materials you can use in Minecraft. There are two ways to craft items in Minecraft. Both of which use a crafting grid which will generate a new item depending on how you choose to place the items in the grid.

2×2 Crafting Grid

The first and most basic type of crafting in Minecraft uses a 2×2 grid. Here you can create the most basic items. For example, a workbench,sticks and planks.

3×3 Crafting Grid

The second way of crafting requires aworkbench. The 3×3 grid is used to create the most advanced materials. This includes everything from armor, food and better blocks.

Crafting Recipes

Basic

Wood Planks	Wood		Wood can be used for building constructions and a variety of different types of crafting recipes. It's easy to obtain wood as it can be found in every biome where there is trees.
Sticks	Wooden Planks		Used mainly for handles on weapons but also for building materials like fences and ladders.
Torches	Stick + Coal		Torches give light. They can be placed on any block, both on a wall and on the ground.
Workbench / Crafting table	Wooden Planks		The workbench is one of the most important blocks in Minecraft as it allows you to craft more advanced materials.
Furnace	Cobblestone		A furnace is used to smelt blocks into other items.
Chest	Wooden Planks		Chests are used to store items. One chest can store up to 27 stacks of items/block.

Blocks

Glowstone Blocks	Glowstone Dust		The Glowstone blocks emits light and can be placed under water unlike torches.
Wool	String		Wool is used mainly for decorative purposes and to craft other items such as a bed.
TNT	Gunpowder + Sand		A destructive block which can be used both as a weapon and a way to get rid of larger chunks of blocks quickly.
Slabs	Stone, Sandstone, Wooden Planks, Cobblestone, Stone Brick, Brick, Quartz		Holds the size of a half Minecraft block. It is used for construction.
Stairs	Wooden Planks, Cobblestone, Stone Brick, Brick, Nether Brick, Sandstone, Quartz		Allows players to get to higher grounds without jumping.
Snow Blocks	Snowballs		Can be used to decorate houses, store snowballs and create snow golems.
Clay Blocks	Clay		Used as a building material.
Brick Blocks	Clay Bricks		Clay Bricks doesn't spawn naturally anywhere. It is mainly used to decorate houses.
Stone Bricks	Stone		Stone bricks can be found naturally in temples and strongholds. It is used for construction.
Bookshelf	Wooden Planks + Books		Can be used to enhance an enchantment table, for decoration and as an inefficient fuel for a furnace.
Sandstone	Sand		Used as a building material.
Melon Block	Melon Slice		Storage for multiple melon slices.
Jack-O-Lantern	Pumpkin + Torch		A lighting source. Used either for decorating or as a functional lighting resource.
Redstone Lamp	Redstone Dust + Glowstone Block		Gives off light as long it is powered. It can be turned on and off using a lever, pressure plate or button.
Quartz	Nether Quartz		Used for decoration.
Nether Brick	Nether Bricks		Can be used to build safe shelters in the Nether.

Tools

Hoe	Sticks + Wooden Planks, Cobblestone, Iron Ingots, Gold Ingots, Diamond Gems		A hoe is used to till dirt and grass blocks into farmland blocks where you can start farming wheat and other products.
Bucket	Iron Ingots		Buckets are used to carry water, lava or milk.
Compass	Iron Ingots + Redstone Dust		The compass can be used to navigate your location. It points towards your original spawn point.
Clock	Gold Ingots + Redstone Dust		A clock to keep track on the in-game time
Fishing Rod	Sticks + Strings		Used to catch fishes.
Shears	Iron Ingots		Shears is a tool used to obtain wool from sheeps.
Flint and Steel	Iron Ingot + Flint		Used to create fire.

Weapons

Mechanisms

Door	Wooden Planks, Iron Ingots		Can be opened by clicking the door or using elecetricity. An iron door can only be opened by electricity.
Trapdoor	Wooden Planks		A horizontal door which fills one block in space.
Pressure Plate	Wooden Planks or Stone		Can be used to provide power to an other element.
Button	Wooden Planks or Stone		Activates and can provide power when pressed.
Redstone Torch	Redstone Dust + Stick		Interacts with Redstone and acts as a power source.
Lever	Cobblestone + Stick		Functions as a switch and can be connected by redstone write to be controlled from far away.
Piston	Wooden Planks + Cobblestone + Iron Ingot + Redstone Dust		Can be used to push blocks, players or mobs.
Sticky Piston	Piston + Slimeball		Sticky pistons can both push and pull objects.
Note Block	Wooden Planks + Redstone Dust		Plays a note when punched by a player or powered by the usage of redstone.
Jukebox	Wooden Planks + Diamond Gem		A jukebox is used to play music discs.
Dispenser	Cobblestone + Redstone Dust + Bow		When triggered a random object based on its contents drop out.
Redstone Repeater	Stone + Redstone Dust + Redstone Torch		Can be used in redstone circuits as a repeater, a delayer or a diode.
Tripwire Hook	Iron Ingot + Stick+ Wooden Plank		Stretch a string between two tripwire hooks and be able to send a redstone pulse when a player or mob walks through it.
Daylight Sensor	Glass + Nether Quartz + Wood Slabs		Works like a solar panel. If it's enough light it can emit a redstone signal.
Redstone Comparator	Stone + Redstone Torch + Nether Quartz		Used to compare the signal strength from two directions.
Dropper	Cobblestone + Redstone Dust		Drops an item from its inventory each time it's powered.
Hopper	Iron + Chest		Transfers items in and out of containers.
Trapped Chest	Tripwire Hook + Chest		If a trapped chest is opened it can emit a redstone signal.
Weighted Pressure Plate (heavy) (iron)	Iron Ingots		Only items can activate them. The more items placed on the pressure plate determines the emitted redstone signal.
Weighted Pressure Plate (heavy) (gold)	Gold Ingots		Only items can activate them. The more items placed on the pressure plate determines the emitted redstone signal.

Ladders	Sticks		Can be used to climb vertically.

Map	Paper + Compass		Can be used to navigate throughout the world. You can share your maps with others and combine several maps to a larger one.
Fence	Sticks		Used to seperate areas. Players, mobs (except spiders which can climb over them and skeletons can shoot over them) and animals cannot jump over them.
Fence Gates	Wooden Planks + Sticks		Functions the same way as doors but is a better suiting for fences.
Glass Panes	Glass		A transparent thinner than glass blocks and is normally used as windows.
Iron Bars	Iron Ingots		Similar to fences. The main different is its height which is only 1.0 block high compared to fences which are 1.5 blocks high.
Bed	Wooden Planks + Wool		Can be used to skip through nights and to create new spawn points.
Gold Ingot	Gold Nuggets		Used to create clocks, decorative blocks, tools and armor. The tools made by gold are usually more powerful than diamond tools but because of the very low durability it's normally more practical to avoid using such gold tools.
Bottle	Glass		A bottle can be used to pickup water which is the starting point of brewing.
Blaze Powder	Blaze Rod		Used to craft other items. Such as a Fire Charge, a brewing stand or Magma Cream.
Magma Cream	Slimeball + Blaze Powder		Magma Cream can be used when creating potions such as potions of fire resistance which when you drink them allow you to swim in lava.
Fermented Spider Eye	Spider Eye + Brown Mushroom + Sugar		A portion ingredient.
Brewing Stand	Blaze Rod + Cobblestone		Used for brewing potions and splash potions.
Enchantment Table	Obsidian + Diamond + Book		Allows players to enchant armors and tools.
Cauldron	Iron		Can be used to fill glass bottles with water and wash off dye from leather armor.
Eye of Ender	Ender Pearl+ Blaze Powder		Ender of Eye can be used to locate and activate End Portals. Ender of Eyes can also be used to craft other items.
Glistering Melon	Melon Slice + Gold Nugget		Can be used to create health restoration potions.
Fire Charge	Blaze Powder + Coal+ Gunpowder		Used as fireball ammunation for dispensers or as an worse alternative to flint and steel.
Ender Chest	Obsidian + Eye of Ender		Ender chests functions as storage is shared across several dimensions where other ender chests are placed.
Book and Quill	Ink Sac + Book+ Feather		Used to turn books into books written by players which also can be read by players. A book can be 50 pages long with 256 characters on each page.
Beacon	Obsidian + Glass + Nether Star		A pyramid of iron, gold, emerald or diamond blocks placed beneath the beacon will make it emit a light blue beam which will give the surrounding players temporary buffs.
Anvil	Iron Ingot + Block of Iron		Used to repair items, change name of items and combine enchanments.
Flower Pot	Bricks		A decorative block which can be used to place plants in.
Cobblestone Walls	Cobblestone / Moss Stone		Cobblestone walls are a dedorative block which can work as an alternativ for wooden fences. They function the same way as they are also 1.5 block high.
Item Frame	Sticks + Leather		Can be used to place an item inside it.
Carrot on a Stick	Fishing Rod + Carrot		Used to control pigs when riding them.

Dyes

Bone Meal	Bone		As a dye its only use is to give them a white color. The most common usage of bone meal is it being used to grow trees and other plants instantly when applied.
